Daily Word
Daily Word is a small word puzzle with a new answer every day. You get six tries to find a hidden five-letter English word. After each guess the tiles change colour to tell you how close you are, and the on-screen keyboard keeps a running record of every letter you have tried. Everyone gets the same word on the same day, so you can compare results with friends without giving the answer away.
Want it in Hindi? Try the हिंदी edition, which is played with whole syllables instead of single letters.
How to play
- Type any real five-letter word and press Enter. Made-up words are not accepted.
- A green tile means that letter is in the word and in the right place.
- A yellow tile means the letter is in the word, but somewhere else.
- A grey tile means the letter is not in the word at all.
- Repeated letters count carefully: if you guess a word with two Es and the answer has only one, only one of your Es lights up.
- Solve it within six guesses to keep your streak going. A new puzzle starts at midnight on your own clock; if you are partway through when the clock strikes twelve, you finish that word first and it counts for its own day.
Modes and settings
Hard mode makes you use every clue you have found: green letters must stay where they are and yellow letters must appear in your next guesses. Turn it on before your first guess of the day. High contrast swaps green and yellow for orange and blue, which many colour-blind players find easier to tell apart. When the daily word is done, Practice gives you unlimited random words, and you can watch a short ad for a hint that reveals one letter.
Tips for better scores
Open with a word that uses common, different letters, such as one with two or three vowels and letters like R, S, T, L or N. Your second guess should usually test fresh letters rather than shuffle the ones you already know, because ruling letters out is just as useful as finding them. Watch for double letters, which catch many players near the end. And when only a few options remain, pick a guess that separates them instead of trying them one at a time.
Sharing your result
Press Share after you finish to send a grid of coloured squares that shows how your game went without revealing any letters. On a phone it opens the share sheet, so it can go straight to WhatsApp; on a computer it is copied for you to paste. Your statistics, including games played, win rate, current and best streak and how many guesses you usually need, are stored only in this browser.
