Solitaire (Klondike)
Klondike is the solitaire most people mean when they say “solitaire”: one deck, seven columns and a quiet puzzle that is part planning and part luck. Your goal is to move all 52 cards onto the four foundations in the top right, one pile per suit, from Ace up to King.
How to play
- The seven columns hold 28 cards. Only the top card of each is face up. Build down on them in alternating colours: a red 6 on a black 7, a black Jack on a red Queen.
- You can move a face-up card together with every card stacked on it. When a face-down card is uncovered, it turns over.
- Only a King (with anything stacked on it) can go into an empty column.
- Tap the stock in the top left to turn cards onto the waste. In Draw 1 you turn one card at a time; in Draw 3 you turn three and can only play the top one. When the stock runs out, tap it again to turn the waste back over.
- Drag a card where you want it, or just tap it and it jumps to the best legal spot, foundations first.
Once every card on the table is face up, the game finishes itself and the cards fly home. Undo is unlimited, and each deal comes with three free hints.
Scoring
Moving a card to a foundation scores 10 points, playing from the waste to a column scores 5, and turning over a face-down card scores 5. Taking a card back off a foundation costs 15. Turning the waste over costs 100 points in Draw 1, and 20 points per pass after the third in Draw 3. The score also slips by 2 points every 10 seconds, and a fast win earns a time bonus, so speed matters if you are chasing a high score.
Tips
- Uncover face-down cards first. Most games are won or lost on the long columns on the right.
- Don’t empty a column unless you have a King ready to move into it.
- Play low cards to the foundations early, but keep a few 3s and 4s on the table if you still need somewhere to put a red or black 2.
- In Draw 3, think about which card each turn of the stock will expose next; playing one card from the waste shifts every later group.
- Stuck? Use Undo to go back a few moves and try a different column. There is no penalty for experimenting.
Your games played, wins, best time and winning streak are saved on this device, separately for Draw 1 and Draw 3.
