Spelling Hive
Spelling Hive is a daily word puzzle. Seven letters sit in a honeycomb, with one letter in the middle. Make as many words as you can from them. Everyone gets the same hive on the same day, so you can compare how far you climbed with friends, and it is made for short visits: find a word or two, come back later, find a few more.
How to play
- Every word must be at least four letters long.
- Every word must use the centre letter.
- You can use any letter more than once, so a hive with A, L and P lets you make APPLE.
- Tap the letters or type on your keyboard, then press Enter. Delete removes the last letter.
- The shuffle button moves the six outer letters around, which often shows you a word you missed.
Scoring and ranks
A four-letter word is worth one point. Longer words are worth one point per letter, so a seven-letter word scores seven. Every hive hides at least one pangram, a word that uses all seven letters, and a pangram earns seven bonus points on top. Your rank grows with your share of the day’s total points: Beginner, Good, Solid, Nice, Great, Amazing and Genius. Find every single word and a secret rank appears.
Tips
Start with short words built around the centre letter, then try adding common endings such as -ING, -ED, -ER or -LY when those letters are in the hive. Look for pairs of letters that often go together, like TH, CH or OU. Long words are where the points are, so once you have a few short ones, hunt for the pangram: it often uses the less common letters. When you get stuck, shuffle, step away and come back with fresh eyes.
The word list
Answers come from a list of common English words that are spelled the same in British, American and Indian English. There are no names of people or places, no abbreviations, no hyphenated words and nothing rude, and the hives never use the letter S, so plurals don’t pad the list.
World and India editions
Both editions play the same letters every day. The India edition also accepts everyday Indian-English words such as CHAI, ROTI and KURTA as bonus words. They are celebrated but score no points, so ranks and shared results stay comparable everywhere. The game picks an edition on your first visit; change it any time under How to play.
Daily hive, archive and sharing
A new hive arrives at midnight on your own clock, and yesterday’s answers appear the next day. Reaching Good keeps your streak going. Missed a day? Past hives wait in the Archive for practice, where you can watch a short ad for a hint that shows the first two letters of a word you haven’t found yet. Share sends your rank, points and word count without giving any words away.
